Daylight Savings Can Kick Bricks.. and more Inspiration from the Sun

Hi Reader!

How about that daylight savings, eh??? I have to admit, my kids tend to adjust pretty easily (not the story when they were younger) so I feel pretty lucky. BUT, now they have all these questions about how the sun knows to stay up longer? Or how it knows to not come up so early? I’ve tried my best to explain that the sun really does’t care about our system, that time is a human-made construct. I explained that the sun does what it does and we just play around with the numbers on the clock… well, a week later, they’re still asking me how the sun knew to not come up in the morning yet… my brain hurts.

BUT it also got me thinking about what other made up ideas add more stress to our lives. Three big ones stood out...

  • The idea that happiness or perfect health are destinations we can reach with the right recipe.
  • That our bodies are just supposed to magically heal even if we keep beating them up, don’t let them rest, or ask for help.
  • Working more and/or harder is always better.

We have so many strange stories we’ve made up, I think sometimes we forget that that’s just what they are... stories. None of these ideas are based on universal truths about how the body functions, how it heals, what it needs to thrive. In fact, most of them are inspired solely by the need to stay ‘productive’, or not be considered lazy or weak (by ourselves or others).

We should be more like the sun. We need to ignore the “clock”, ignore those social constructs, those social pressures that tell us to keep going, to go hard, to seek perfection. Let's let ourselves line back up with our body’s natural rhythm by...

  • Acknowledging that happiness and perfect health are illusions.

They are potential experiences, not destinations. There are far too many variables in life to expect a constant, static, state of being.

  • Allowing ourselves to rest, ideally without guilt, so our systems can heal.

I mean, ultimately, it’s a win win. Our bodies get what they need and we can get back to doing what we love quicker!

  • Everybody is unique.

More is not always better. Harder is not always beneficial. Moderation is key. Moderation requires listening to our bodies. If more or harder causes pain, it's too much. Doing less doesn't make you weak, it makes you smart.

I want all of us to be like the sun and tell social pressures, these stories, to kick bricks.

Try this new mantra... inspired by the sun.

"I’m going up when I go up, and going down when I go down."

I'd love to help you get back to your body. Let's make a flow, get back in a flow, find your flow, update your current flow. If you’re injured, hit a plateau with your workouts, need modifications to your routine, or just need help creating a routine please reach out. I might not be able to adequately answer the how’s and why’s of daylight savings, but I can definitely help you feel better, move better, and enjoy a more active life!

WHAT'S NEW?

I’ve been hard at work writing and filming the content for my upcoming online course release. Rebuild Your Core: A 5 Week Postpartum Recovery Series is going to be available on-demand!!! I’m so excited! I’ve loved doing this series in-person, and will continue to do one or two a year (see below), BUT, not everyone is local, not everyone has free time at noon on a Wednesday, and I want this series to reach as many moms as possible. This series is great for any stage postpartum whether you are 6 weeks, 6 months, or 6 years!! It is never too late to REBUILD.

Are you interested? Do you know someone that could use this work? Please spread the word!

Hi Reader! Not that I needed the confirmation to be honest, but holy hell THE BODY IS AMAZING! I had an absolutely wild experience back in April that just confirmed what I’ve always said but in like one of those holy crap, can’t deny, kind of ways? So, I went home to Boston (Lexington if you want to get technical) for my mom’s dance recital, something I do every year. I usually get home on Wednesday, learn my dances Wed/Thurs then show time Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. So it snowed, like...

Hi Reader! And just like that… it’s January! Happy happy New Year!!! I hope you had a wonderful holiday season! We took a 10 day trip back east to visit family. It was great to see everyone and watch the kids play with their grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins! We even got to see my brother Sebastian in his theatre's performance of A Christmas Carol, but after sleeping in 6 different beds, home has never felt so COMFY!! I'm still recovering. I'm literally sitting on a heat pad as I type...
